Cashback apps: where the cashback goes and how long it takes
Let me be direct: cashback is not a gift from the store. It's the commission the store pays the app for bringing you there, and the app shares that amount with you. This explains almost everything that's confusing in the statement: why the money remains "pending" for weeks, why there's a minimum withdrawal amount, and why a coupon copied from another website can zero out what you would be entitled to receive.
The numbers are concrete. At Méliuz, redeeming your balance through the app's own account starts at R$$ 20; at Cuponomia, the minimum to send cashback to a bank account is also R$$ 20. Both values are on each app's official page on Google Play, which I checked before writing, as well as the ratings and downloads of each app mentioned here.
Where does the cashback money come from?
Every large store has an affiliate program: it pays a percentage of the sale to whoever brought in the customer. A cashback app is a giant affiliate. When you tap "go to store" within the app, the link loads a tracking code; the store registers that the visit came from there and, if the purchase is completed, credits the commission to the app. The app keeps a portion and returns the other to you in the form of credit.
That's why the percentage changes from store to store and, within the same store, from category to category: each retailer negotiates its own commission. It also explains why cashback disappears when you buy without going through the app: without the tracking code, the store doesn't pay commission to anyone, and there's no amount to share.
Credit card cashback has a different source, but with the same logic: it comes from the fee that the card network and issuer charge the merchant on each purchase, and the bank returns a portion to you to encourage you to use their card.
The three cashback families on mobile
The apps refund money in three situations, each with its own rules:
- Buy online through the app. You open Méliuz, Cuponomia, or Zoom, choose the store, tap the button, and complete the purchase on their website. It's the classic model, with tracking via link and a confirmation timeframe.
- Physical store. Through the sales receipt (Méliuz Nota Fiscal returns part of the value of participating products in supermarkets and pharmacies when you send the receipt through the app) or through the cashback credit card, which returns a fixed percentage of any purchase.
- Payment and top-up. Mobile phone top-ups offer cashback on Méliuz and Cuponomia (the latter covers Tim, Vivo, and Claro); Cuponomia also returns part of the value of gift cards for Google Play, Uber, PSN, and Xbox.
Why is cashback "pending" and for how long?
After the purchase, the statement shows the amount as pending. Nothing is wrong. The store only pays the commission to the app after confirming that the sale is finalized, that is, after the exchange, return, and cancellation period has passed. If you return the product, the commission is refunded and the cashback is credited along with it.
The cashback confirmation period is defined by the store and program rules, not by a general minimum period established by law. Returns, cancellations, and order validation may affect payment. Consumer Protection Code It provides for a seven-day right of withdrawal for purchases made outside of a commercial establishment, calculated as per article 49; this alone does not define the cashback schedule.
What each statement status means
- Registered or pending: The store acknowledged that the visit came from the app and the purchase was tracked. There's still no money available.
- Confirmed: The store paid the commission. The amount is yours, but it may be below the minimum for withdrawal.
- Available: The confirmed balance has reached the minimum and can be transferred.
- Canceled: The store reported a return, cancellation, unauthorized coupon, or untracked order. This is an avoidable status.
How to read the store's listing before clicking "buy".
The store's listing within the app is the contract. Read it in this order:
- Percentage and calculation basis. Check if the percentage applies to the value of the products or to the total including shipping. In most stores, shipping and taxes are not included.
- Excluded categories. A store might return 5% worth of clothing but nothing in cell phones. The number highlighted in the window display is usually the largest in the store, not the average.
- Confirmation deadline. That's the length of time the money will remain pending.
- Coupon rules. The form indicates whether it accepts coupons from outside sources or only those listed there. This line determines if you receive one.
- Payment terms. Some stores do not pay commission on products from partner sellers, on gift vouchers, or on orders paid for with balance from another promotion.
Méliuz: over a thousand stores and cashback on your receipt.
Méliuz surpasses 10 million downloads on Google Play, with a 4.7 rating based on over 1.3 million reviews. Its profile lists cashback at more than a thousand online stores, including Amazon, Magazine Luiza, Casas Bahia, Shopee, AliExpress, and Shein.
The key difference is Méliuz Nota Fiscal: you buy participating products at the supermarket or pharmacy, photograph the receipt through the app, and receive part of the value back, redeemable via Pix. For those who want cashback on every purchase, there's the Méliuz credit card, with no annual fee, which returns up to 2%: 1% on any purchase and another 1% at partner stores purchased through the app. With the Méliuz Account, balance redemption is instant starting from R$ 20. The app is also available on the App Store, with a 4.8 rating.

Cuponomia: cashback activated with one tap and redemption starting from R$ 20
Cuponomia has a 4.8 rating on Google Play, with over 59,000 reviews and more than 1 million downloads. The listing mentions over 2,000 partner stores, including Mercado Livre, Magalu, Shopee, and KaBuM!. The process is the same as Méliuz, with one detail highlighted in the listing: you tap "activate cashback" on the store's page before making purchases, and this tap activates the tracking.
The cashback to your bank account starts at R$ 20 accumulated in your statement. Recharging Tim, Vivo, and Claro mobile services returns part of the value, as do gift cards for Google Play, Uber, PSN, and Xbox purchased through the app. Referrals earn R$ 5 cashback for both the referrer and the new user. On the App Store, it has a rating of 4.9.

Zoom: Cashback within the price comparison tool.
Zoom started as a price comparison app and gained cashback. Its Google Play listing, published by Banco Pan, mentions over 600 stores, price history for the last 6 months or 40 days, price alerts, and the "Zoom Guarantee," which promises to refund up to R$5,000 if the purchased product doesn't arrive. It has 10 million downloads and a 4.6 rating.
The advantage is seeing, on the same screen, which store has the lowest price and which gives back the most: a product that is R$ 30 more expensive with 5% cashback is still more expensive. Cashback at the bank: Inter Shop and PicPay cards
Some banks maintain shopping areas within their apps and may credit rewards to your account balance. The percentage, eligibility, timeframe, and any minimum amount depend on the program. At Inter Shop, check the store and product conditions before proceeding to checkout; Inter Loop points follow their own rules and do not mean immediately available cash.

At PicPay, cashback is tied to the card: the listing shows the Gold Card with cashback on PicPay Shop, the Platinum with 0.5% on all credit purchases, the Black with 1.2%, and the Epic with up to 4%. The amount is added to the account balance. Since each card tier requires a specific income profile, choosing the right bank comes first, and a comparison between free accounts is available on the website. Minimum withdrawal and redemption methods, app by app.
The table only includes what's on each app's official page on Google Play; where it doesn't provide information, I've added it myself.
| App | Where cashback originates | Where the money falls | Minimum to redeem | Note on Play |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Meliuz | Online stores, invoice, top-up, own card | Balance in the app; redeem via Pix or Méliuz Account. | R$ 20 via Méliuz Account | 4,7 |
| Coupononomy | Online stores, top-ups, gift cards, referrals | Statement in the app; redemption to bank account. | R$ 20 accumulated | 4,8 |
| Zoom | Online stores via comparison tool | Balance in the app | The form does not provide this information. | 4,6 |
| Inter | Inter Shop and Inter Loop points | Directly into the checking account. | According to the program rules | 4,8 |
| PicPay | Gold, Platinum, Black and Epic cards | PicPay account balance | According to the program rules | 4,6 |
Beblue, which appeared on older lists, is no longer on Google Play: if you had a balance there, you'll have to contact the company's customer service, not use an external APK. Ame Digital was left out because I couldn't find its listing to check.
How to combine cashback and coupons without losing either one.
The rule that most often cancels cashback is the coupon rule. The store pays a commission to an affiliate per sale: if you enter through Méliuz and paste a coupon obtained from another website into your cart, the store can attribute the sale to the owner of that coupon, and the app loses the commission it would share with you. The sequence that preserves both:
- Open the cashback app and go to the store's page.
- Read the information sheet: percentage, excluded categories, and the line "accepts external coupons" or "only app coupons".
- Copy the coupon listed there, if available.
- Tap “go to store” or “activate cashback” and complete your purchase in the same session, without leaving for another app.
- Paste the coupon into your cart, complete the checkout process, and save the order number.
Stores with their own in-app coupons, such as Shein, follow a different logic: the discount comes from the store's own points and coupon system, and cashback from outside depends on whether the account allows the combination. These internal coupons are explained in the [link to coupons]. Coupons and points guide within the Shein app..
Mistakes that void cashback
- Open the store through your browser or its app. Without going through the cashback app link, there is no tracking.
- Coupon from outside the app. It's the most common type of cancellation.
- The stroller was assembled beforehand. The order usually goes to the last origin that tracked it: empty the cart, log in through the app and assemble it again.
- Cancel, return, or exchange. The commission is reversed and the cashback is included, even if it was already confirmed.
- Purchase excluded category. The display case shows "up to 6%", the card says "electronics: 0%". The card rules.
How much comes in per month, in numbers?
Cashback is a discount on spending, and the calculation shows its magnitude. Someone who spends R$ 500 per month online, always through an app, with an average return of 3%, receives R$ 15. Adding a card that returns 1% in R$ 1,500 of the bill, the month ends up being around R$ 30. It's money that previously stayed with the intermediary; it's just not income.
Buying something to "earn cashback" means spending R$ 100 to receive R$ 3. The app works by fitting into your usual shopping routine, and the scale is the same as paid surveys and microtasks, as shown in the... A guide to the types of income earned through mobile phones and how much each one pays..
Common questions
Can I receive cashback from both the app and the card on the same purchase?
Yes, and it's the most efficient combination. The app's cashback comes from the affiliate commission; the card's cashback comes from the fee the merchant pays to the card network and the issuer. These are independent sources and do not cancel each other out, except when the store's terms and conditions exclude a certain payment method.
I made a purchase through the app, but the order didn't appear on my statement. What now?
Wait for the automatic registration period to expire, and if nothing appears, open the unregistered purchase form with the order number, date, and amount; the app will then notify the store. If the purchase followed the established procedure and the app denies it without justification, a complaint can be filed on [website/platform name]. consumer.gov.br.
Does the app charge a fee to release the withdrawal?
No. The five apps mentioned are free on Google Play, and redeeming the balance is free. Any message asking for a deposit, "release fee," or payment to unlock cashback is a scam, even if it uses the name of one of these apps.
Does it work on iPhone?
It works. Méliuz and Cuponomia are available on the Brazilian App Store, with ratings of 4.8 and 4.9 respectively, and Zoom also has an iOS version. The tracking is the same: the purchase must start in the app and end in the browser that was opened.
The first step takes five minutes: install Méliuz or Cuponomia, open the page of the store where you would make your next purchase, and read the information up to the coupon line. The subsequent purchase will then be processed through the app.
