Free internet: apps that show you the nearest public Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi maps help locate hotspots registered by a community or the network administrator. Each listing may include the name, location, and access information. Registration does not guarantee that the hotspot is working or prove authorization: confirm the conditions with the establishment before connecting.
WiFi Map and Instabridge advertise broad coverage of shared networks. However, for those who need connectivity, neighborhood or destination coverage matters, not the global total. Recent reviews, accurate location, and information from the provider help decide if it's worth walking to a particular spot.
This guide compares the features described in the app stores for WiFi Map, Instabridge, and WiFi Master. It also explains how to prepare offline maps before a trip and how to check free features, paid features, and availability on your device.
Where does the Wi-Fi signal shown on the map come from?
A Wi-Fi map is a collaborative database. When someone connects to a network and decides to share it on the app, the access point is added to the map with its name, approximate location, and, if the owner has granted permission, the access key. From there, other users evaluate: whether the connection dropped, whether the speed is good, whether the password still works. Three types of networks feed the map:
- Networks of establishmentsThe coffee shop, the shopping mall, the hotel, and the bakery that offer Wi-Fi to customers and leave the password on a board behind the counter.
- Public networksSquares, libraries, terminals and airports, almost always open and with a login portal.
- Networks shared by the owner themselvesPeople who have marked their home or office network as shared in the app.
A protected network may appear on the map even if you have no access available to it. Do not assume that all registrations were made by the owner or that a shared password authorizes its use. Guest networks and public hotspots must be used according to the rules of the owner.
WiFi Map: Check hotspots and travel resources.
WiFi Map organizes points on a map and displays information submitted by the community. Check the location, available reviews, and the date the record was last updated. Actual connection quality may vary depending on the time of day, crowds, and distance from the router.
The page advertises travel features and offline maps. Check if the desired region is available and if the download depends on the plan offered in your account. On iPhone, check the version of the app. App Store; Functions and conditions may differ from those of Android.

Instabridge: automatic connection and offline map
Instabridge gathers information from shared networks and announces automatic connection under compatible conditions. This feature depends on permissions, the system, and the availability of the point. If you prefer to choose each network individually, review the automatic connection settings and confirm the name with the establishment.
The fact sheet provides resources for locating networks and preparing for use while traveling. Check which ones are available in the installed version, including offline maps and connection information. The offer of Instabridge on the App Store It also includes eSIM services, which have their own contracting and compatibility requirements.

WiFi Master: the simplest option
WiFi Master features shared networks and connection options. The description states that the product is not a tool for hacking networks. Before installing, check the features of the version available for your Android device, permissions, and in-app purchases. A name like "WiFi passwords" does not mean it can discover any private password.
Lists Wi-Fi networks shared by users within range of the mobile phone and connects with one touch, using a built-in browser.
WiFi Map vs. Instabridge: Side-by-side comparison
The table only includes what is described in each product's Google Play listing.
| Criterion | What to compare in the two apps |
|---|---|
| Coverage | Points of interest near the destination and recent reviews. |
| Offline | Available regions and plan requirements |
| Connection | Permissions and control of automatic connection |
| Costs | Separate ads, subscription, and eSIM packages |
Choose based on usage: check the destination's coverage, verify the offline capability, and see if you prefer manual or automatic connection. A larger world map may have less useful information specifically for the region where you will be.
Step-by-step instructions for connecting via the app.
The button names vary by version, but the general sequence is as follows:
- Install it from Google Play or the App Store and open the app. It will ask for location permission; without it, the map won't know where you are.
- Center the map on your location and tap a pin to see the network name, distance, and ratings.
- Check the date of the last comment. A review site that hasn't been rated in months may have changed its password or been deactivated.
- Confirm the network name and access authorization with the administrator. Use the option indicated by the app or open the Wi-Fi settings to connect; a registered key may be outdated.
- If there is an access portal, tap the system login notification. If it doesn't appear, consult the establishment's instructions. Do not ignore certificate warnings or provide passwords for other accounts to unlock the network.
- Did you connect? Rate the network in the app. This feedback is what keeps your registration active for the next person.
Keep your location permission set to “only while using the app”: the map needs to know where you are when it’s open, not all day long. If your battery keeps running out before the end of the day, the guide to battery saving on mobile phone It shows what the charge consumes.
Offline mode: download the city base before traveling.
An offline map can be helpful when you arrive in a city without mobile data. Before your trip, check if this feature is included in your plan and download the desired area using an available connection. Open the map after downloading to confirm that the necessary points have been saved and to check the space used.
Saved content can be accessed offline, within the limits of the version and plan. This does not provide a connection: you still need to be within range of an available network. To also prepare for travel, see the guide on... GPS apps that work offline.
Not all information from the online map is available offline. Before leaving, check that names, addresses, and other useful details have been saved. Note down an alternative location, such as a library or your accommodation address, and remember that passwords, access times, and conditions may change after the download.
Why can't any store app figure out your neighbor's password?
The protected network that nobody shared isn't on the map.
These apps locate shared information, but they don't offer universal authorization to access private networks. A strong password and network encryption are not a substitute for the map. If the location requires credentials you don't have, request access from the administrator or look for a guest network.
Confirm access authorization.
Only use networks whose administrator has authorized your access. Do not attempt to bypass passwords, registrations, or service limits. If you find a registered residential network, this does not prove that the owner has made it public. To share your own network, prefer a guest network and only publish the information you intend to make available.
How the app makes money, and what the free version includes.
Apps may combine free installation, ads, subscriptions, and additional services. Check the details and the subscription screen: offline maps or other features may depend on the plan. eSIM packages are a mobile data offer separate from hotspot access and can also be useful for domestic travel, depending on coverage. It's not necessary to subscribe to an eSIM just because it appears as an offer in the app.
What Android and iPhone already do on their own.
Some of what these apps offer is already in the system.
- Public network warning on AndroidIn Settings, Network & Internet, Internet, Network Preferences, the option to notify about public networks alerts you when there is a good quality open network nearby.
- Share Wi-Fi via QR codeStarting with Android 10, tap on the connected network and choose to share; the phone generates a QR code with the password, and your friend points their camera at it.
- Password sharing on iPhoneWith Bluetooth enabled and the contact saved on both devices, the already connected iPhone will offer the password to the other device when it tries to connect to the same network.
What the system doesn't do is provide a map: it notifies you of a network that's already within range, but it doesn't tell you that there's a bakery with Wi-Fi three blocks away. That's where the app's work lies.
How to know if the site is reliable?
Community feedback indicates whether the network works; it doesn't tell you who's on the other side. Four quick checks resolve most cases:
- Confirm the name with the person in charge. Fake networks may mimic well-known names, but similar names can also exist for legitimate reasons. Signal strength and position on the list do not authenticate the network.
- The padlock on the browserOnce connected, open a website you know and check for "https" in the address bar. If a website that always had a padlock icon suddenly appears without it or with a certificate warning, disconnect from the network.
- Check the VPN after accessing it. Some websites are incompatible with certain VPN configurations. If you need to pause the connection, limit yourself to the official website and reactivate the protection before engaging in other activities. A VPN does not guarantee the legitimacy of the network.
- No banking on unknown networks.Balance and transfers are handled by mobile data. It costs only a few megabytes and eliminates the uncertainty.
The other end of the spectrum is the app itself: only install WiFi Map, Instabridge, or WiFi Master from the Google Play Store or the App Store. An APK downloaded from a website promising a "password-unlocked version" is a classic example of a malicious application; if you've already installed something like that, the guide on... How to detect malware on Android This shows what Play Protect does and when a store-bought antivirus helps.
When the app doesn't solve the problem: the city's official public network.
If your mobile phone connects but you can't browse, it could mean authentication is missing on the portal, a session has expired, or there's a network failure. Confirm the system warning and the local rules. The guide on How to access the city's public Wi-Fi. It explains the diagnostic sequence and the difference between public points and services intended for institutions.
Common questions
Does the app show your neighbor's Wi-Fi password?
It displays information registered by the community. This does not mean discovering an unknown password or guaranteeing authorization from the owner. If the location is not clearly public or intended for guests and clients, ask for permission before using it.
Are WiFi Map and Instabridge free?
Installation may be free and include ads and in-app purchases. Additional features and offline maps may have specific conditions. Check the offer displayed in your account and differentiate between the app subscription and eSIM mobile data packages.
Does offline mode work without any signal?
The downloaded information can be viewed offline, depending on the capabilities of the version used. Prepare the area before leaving and check what has been saved. The offline map does not create a Wi-Fi signal or update the availability of points while you are without internet.
I connected to the internet and my phone says "no internet". What should I do?
There may be a login portal, but there may also be internet outages, expired sessions, or unstable signal issues. Tap the network access warning, check the instructions provided, and reconnect if necessary. Do not permanently disable protections or ignore certificate warnings to browse the internet.
Which of the three should I install?
Compare the coverage in your neighborhood or destination and the features you intend to use. WiFi Map and Instabridge advertise travel features; WiFi Master offers options connected to shared networks. Check the available version, costs, and automatic connection control before choosing.
The first step takes two minutes: install WiFi Map from the store, grant location permission while using it, and look at the map of your neighborhood. If you're going to travel, download the base map for your destination city today, using your home Wi-Fi.
