With your back to the same window, no filter can fix it: the camera measures the light background, darkens the face, and the app compensates by blurring everything.<\/p>\n

A selfie depends on light, camera position, and distance before it depends on filters. Apps can adjust exposure, color, and portrait details, but intense smoothing controls can also erase texture. The comparison below starts with the features described in the app stores and organizes the tools by task: taking a photo, correcting lighting, or editing the image finish.<\/p>\n

Therefore, this guide separates two things that advertisements mix up: camera apps, which apply the filter in real time and show the effect before you take the photo, and retouching apps, which work tool by tool afterward. "Natural" means one thing in each case.<\/p>\n

The right light: the adjustment that no filter can replace.<\/h2>\n

The front camera has a smaller sensor than the rear camera. In low light, its sensitivity increases, noise appears, and the beautification mode "solves" the noise by blurring the skin. On Samsung devices, the option to save the selfie as it appears on the viewfinder is in the camera's own settings. Automatic HDR balances the bright background with the darker face; if you turned it off at any point, turn it back on.<\/p>\n

    Several native cameras apply skin smoothing by default, at a low level. On Samsung cameras, the adjustment is located in the wand icon on the front camera viewfinder; on Xiaomi, in the Beautify button; on Pixel, in Face Retouch, within the camera settings. If you're going to retouch later in an app, reset this control when taking the photo; smoothing on top of smoothing is what produces poreless skin.<\/p>\n
