On compatible iPhones, the Photos app lets you touch and hold the subject to separate it from the background. This feature requires iOS 16 or later and a compatible model, such as an iPhone XS\/XR or newer; creating stickers also depends on the system version. Before installing another editor, check if this native cropping feature works for your image.<\/p>\n

Some Galaxy models offer subject cropping in the Samsung Gallery: touch and hold on the object and look for options to copy, share, or save. Availability depends on the model and installed version, not just on having One UI 5. If the menu doesn't appear, check for updates and features on your device.<\/p>\n

I'll be direct about the rest: the app is lacking in four situations. Loose hair, product photos with a solid white background, dozens of images at once, and a full-resolution PNG for a logo or artwork. This guide starts with native cropping, goes through the apps that solve these four problems, and ends with the detail that almost no one explains: why the transparent PNG arrives with a white background in WhatsApp.<\/p>\n

What the phone already cuts automatically.<\/h2>\n

Before installing anything, test the gesture on your device. It solves portrait, pet, and any photo with a sharp subject on a uniform or blurred background.<\/p>\n

iPhone: Touch and hold the object.<\/h3>\n

  1. Open the photo in full screen in the Photos app (the gesture also works in Safari and Quick Look).<\/li>\n
  2. Keep your touch on the person or object until the outline appears.<\/li>\n
  3. Tap Copy Object and paste it into Messages, Mail, or Notes, or drag the clipping with your other finger to another app.<\/li>\n
  4. Tap Add Sticker to save the cutout to the sticker keyboard.<\/li>\n
  5. To keep the file, tap Share and save the image: it will appear in Photos as a transparent PNG.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Galaxy: The Gallery cuts and saves as a sticker.<\/h3>\n

    On Galaxy devices compatible with subject cropping, open the photo in Gallery and touch and hold on the object. Use one of the options provided to save or share the cropped image. The pasting method and transparency support depend on the destination app; check the image in the location where it will be used.<\/p>\n

    Two practical warnings. Google Photos doesn't do this: its Magic Eraser erases an object and fills in the gap, the opposite of cropping; to separate the subject from the background, Photos doesn't have a tool. And on Android without Samsung Gallery, the gesture depends on the manufacturer; if tapping and holding only opens the share menu, it's the app that handles it.<\/p>\n
